1

Sing this lofty hymn to Indra and the Maruts, who vanquish the evil Vṛtras. Whereby the Holy Ones created divine light for the God to always shine.

2

Indra, who dispels curses, sent them far away, then shone brightly upon us. Indra, radiant with your Marut hosts! The gods strive to win your love.

3

Sing to your lofty Indra, Maruts, a holy hymn of praise. Let Śatakratu, Vṛtra-slayer, strike down the foe with his hundred-knotted thunderbolt.

4

Aim and strike boldly, O you whose heart is brave: great glory will be yours. Spread the rapid torrent of waters. Kill Vṛtra, win the light of heaven.

5

When you, unmatched Maghavan, were born to slay the Vṛtras dead, You spread out the vast earth and upheld the heavens.

6

There was the sacrifice offered for you, the song of joy and praise, You surpass all, all that is and all that will be.

7

You filled the raw cows with rich milk. You made Sūrya rise to heaven. Heat him with pure Sāma hymns, great joy for him who loves the song.
