I SING a lofty song, for she is mightiest, most divine of Rivers.

Sarasvatī will I exalt with hymns and praises, and, O Vasiṣṭha, Heaven and Earth.

2

When in the fullness of their might the Pūrus dwell, Beautiful One, on your two grassy banks, Favor us you who have the Maruts as your friends; stir up the bounty of our leaders.

3

May Sarasvatī bring good fortune, rich in spoils, never stingy in thought, Praised in Jamadagni’s way and lauded as Vasiṣṭha does.

4

We call upon Sarasvān, as unmarried men who long for wives, As generous men who yearn for sons.

5

Be thou our kind protector, O Sarasvān, with those waves of yours Laden with sweetness and dripping oil.

6

May we enjoy Sarasvān’s bosom, all-beautiful, swelling with streams, May we gain sustenance and offspring.
