1

True, faithful servant of the Law, you bring light and dwell in peace, O Agni, Whom you, as Varuṇa with Mitra, protect, O God, by driving away his troubles.

2

He has made offerings, labored in worship, and presented gifts to Agni, the wealth-giver. No one can anger him, nor can insults touch such a mortal.

3

Radiant God, whose gaze is spotless like the Sun, you come swiftly when desired. Give us your gear. Come joyfully at evening, Child of Wood, and stay with us too.

4

His gait is fierce and his body vast and wondrous; he chomps like a horse with reins. And, with his tongue like a hatchet, he burns the woods, tasting them like a furnace.

5

Archer-like, eager to shoot, he sets his arrow and sharpens his brilliance like iron's edge. Messenger of the night with a brilliant path, like a swift-winged bird of the forest.

6

Like the singer in the beams of dawn, you shine bright as Mitra, crackling with your light. Red at night, by day the men’s possession: red, he belongs to men by day, Immortal.

7

Like Heaven's when its voice was scattered, the radiant Hero shouted among the plants, Who, with his glow in rapid course, came here to fill both worlds, the well-wedded Ladies, with treasure.

8

With supporting streams and rays that suit him, he flashed like lightning with his natural vigor. Like the skilled Maker of the Maruts’ band, the bright and impetuous One shone brilliantly.
