O Indra, you who slew Vṛtra, come to us now, mighty one with your might.

Swift and fierce you move, amazing among the orderly folk.

You perform wonders for our aid.

Even with the weak, you strike down the strong,

With your might, you vanquish the mighty,

And with your friends, you crush them.

We are close to you, Indra, and sing our songs to you.

Help us and protect us, dear one.

As the caster of stone, come with your wonderful succors,

Blameless and irresistible.

May we be your friends, Indra, with the wealth of cattle,

Companions in spirited energy.

For you, Indra, are the sole lord of strength from cattle,

Grant us abundant sustenance.

They do not turn you aside, praised Lover of the Song,

When you give wealth to those who praise you.

The Gotamas sing their praise to you, Indra, for spirited energy.

Break down those forts, Indra, in joyful assault.

The sages sing those brave deeds, Indra, Song-lover,

That you wrought when Soma flows.

The Gotamas, who sing praises to you, grow strong by you.

Give them renown with heroic sons.

For you, Indra, truly are the universal treasure,

Therefore, we invoke you.

Excellent Indra, turn to us, glad among us with the juice

Of Soma, Soma-drinker you.

May praise from us, who think on you, O Indra, bring you near.

Turn your two bay steeds hitherward.

Eat of our sacrificial cake, rejoice in the songs we sing.

Like a lover in his bride.

We pray for a thousand fleet-footed horses and a hundred jars of Soma juice.

Make a hundred of your kine, and a thousand, come to us.

So let your bounty come to us, Indra.

Vṛtra-slayer, you are famous in many places as generous,

Hero, share your bounty with us.

I praise your pair of tawny steeds, Wise Son of him who gives cattle.

Do not terrify the cows with these.

Like two slender images of girls, unadorned, on a newly made post,

So shine the bay steeds in their course.
