We call you, Lord and Guide of the celestial host, the wisest of the wise, the most renowned of all, The Supreme Prayrer, O Brahmaṇaspati; hear us with aid; sit down in the place of sacrifice.
Bṛhaspati, immortal God! Indeed, the Gods have gained your wisdom in sacred rites. As the Sun with its bright beams brings forth the dawn’s rays, so you alone are the Father of all sacred prayers.
When you chase away slanderers and darkness, you mount the radiant chariot of sacrifice; The terrible chariot, Bṛhaspati, that vanquishes the foe, slays demons, splits the herd of cattle, and finds the light.
You guide with good counsel and protect men; no distress overtakes one who offers gifts to you. He whom you punish with anger, Bṛhaspati, whose wrath you quell; in this lies your great might.
No sorrow, no distress from any side, no foes, no deceitful creatures have overcome the man— You drive away all seductive fiends from him whom, with care, you keep, O Brahmaṇaspati.
You are our guardian, wise, preparer of our paths; we, for your service, sing to you with hymns of praise. Bṛhaspati, whoever sets a trap for us, may his evil fate, precipitated, destroy.
And him, too, who threatens us without offense of ours, the evilminded, arrogant, rapacious man— Turn him from our path, Bṛhaspati; give us fair access to this divine feast.
You are our protector of bodies, savior, comforter who loves us; strike down with your might the Gods’ enemies. Let not the unrighteous come to highest bliss; we, Bṛhaspati, gain highest power of life.
Through you, kind prosperer, O Brahmaṇaspati, may we obtain the wealth of men that all desire: And all our enemies, who near or far away prevail against us, crush, and leave them destitute.
With you as our own rich and liberal ally, may we, Bṛhaspati, gain highest power of life. Let not the guileful wicked man be lord of us—still may we prosper, singing goodly hymns of praise.
