Agni, first and loud, like a father, kindled by humans on the altar seat. Clothed in his glory, immortal and sharp-eyed, must be adorned by all, the Strong, the Famous.
May Agni, the radiant one, hear my call through all my songs, Immortal and sharp-eyed. Dark horses or red ones draw his chariot, or he carries them in various ways, making them red.
On wood, lying down, they received the well-formed infant; a seed in various-shaped plants was Agni; And in the night, not surrounded by darkness, he dwells exceedingly wise, with beams of light.
With oil and sacred offerings, I sprinkle Agni who makes his home in front of all living beings, Broad, vast, through vital power over all extended, conspicuous, strong with all the food that sustains him.
I offer to him who looks in all directions: may he accept it with a friendly spirit. Agni with bridegroom’s grace and lovely color may not be touched when all his form is fury.
By choice victorious, recognize your portion: with you as envoy may we speak like Manu. Obtaining wealth, I call on perfect Agni who with a persuasive tongue distributes sweetness.
