Offer this solemn worship to Varuṇa and Mitra, the mighty gods who see afar, the ensign born of gods. Sing praises to Sūrya, the son of Dyaus.
May this truthful speech protect me everywhere, among heaven, earth, and the days that stretch wide. All things that move find rest; waters flow endlessly, and the sun rises anew.
No one shall draw you down from times past, when you ride with swift, spotted horses. One luster follows you as you move to the east, and Sūrya, you rise with a different light.
O Sūrya, with your light that dispels darkness and drives every moving thing, keep far from us weak offerings and every ill dream. Guard well the universe’s law, and arise free from wrath, Sūrya, when we pray to you today. May the gods favor this purpose and desire, and let Heaven and Earth, Indra and Waters and Maruts hear. May we never lack in your presence, and live happily, attaining old age.
Cheerful in spirit, ever keen-sighted, with many children, free from sickness and sin, Long-lived, may we look upon you, Sūrya, each day you rise, as great as Mitra is!
May we live long and look upon you, you Far-seeing One, bringing glorious light, The radiant God, the source of joy for every eye, as you rise high over the shining flood.
By your light all life comes forth, and by your beams it returns to rest. O Sūrya with golden hair, rise for us each day, purer than before.
Bless us with your shine, perfect daylight, cold, fervent heat, and lustre. Grant us varied riches, to bless us at home and when we travel.
To our living creatures of both kinds, both bipeds and quadrupeds, grant protection, That they may drink and eat nourishing food. Grant them health and strength and perfect innocence.
Grant us shine, perfect daylight, cold, fervent heat, and lustre. Bestow on us, O Sūrya, varied riches, to bless us in our home and when we travel.
