1

PRESENT to Varuṇa your hymn, Vasiṣṭha, bright and delightful to the Generous Giver, Who brings prosperity upon us, the Bull, the lofty, the Holy, laden with a thousand treasures.

2

And now, as I approach his presence, I take the form of Varuṇa for Agni. May he bring light, the Lord of darkness, in heaven so I may behold its beauty!

3

When Varuṇa and I sail together and push our boat into the middle of the ocean, We, riding over the waves, shall swing within that circle and be happy there.

4

Varuṇa placed Vasiṣṭha in the boat, and with his night he made him a Rishi. When days shine bright, the Sage made him a singer, as the heavens widen and the Dawn grows longer.

5

What has become of those old friendships, when we walk together without enmity? I, Varuṇa, you glorious Lord, have entered your lofty home, your thousand-portal house.

6

If he, your true ally, has sinned against you, still, Varuṇa, he is the friend you loved. Let us not, Living One, know you as sinners; give shelter, as a Sage, to him who praises you.

7

While we dwell in these fixed abodes, and win favor from Aditi’s lap, May Varuṇa untie the bond that binds us. Preserve us evermore, O Gods, with blessings.
