Bring your offerings to Agni’s radiant glory, your hymn as purest sacrifice to Agni, To him who serves as messenger between the songs of men and gods in heaven.
Agni must be wise, though young and tender, since he was born, the Youngest of his Mother; He who with sharp teeth grasps the forests and consumes his food, though plentiful, in an instant.
We must all gather before his presence, this God whom men have seized in his white splendor. This Agni who has borne being seized by men shines for man with unbearable brilliance.
Agni has seen far ahead, immortal among mortals, wise among the fools. Here, O victorious God, stay away from harming us: may we forever share your gracious favor.
Agni, who has made his dwelling in wisdom, surpassed Immortals in creation. Unborn, he supports the plants and trees, and the earth bears him, the All-sustainer.
Agni is Lord of Amṛta. Abundant Lord of wealth and valor, Victorious God, let us not sit around you like weaklings. Victorious God, may we master our possessions, no son born from others. Lengthen not the foolish paths.
The enemy’s treasure can be won with labor: may we be masters of our own possessions. Agni, no son is he who springs from others: do not lengthen the foolish paths.
Unwelcome for adoption is the stranger, one to be thought of as another’s offspring, Though grown familiar by constant presence. May our strong hero come, freshly triumphant.
Guard us from him who would attack us, Agni; preserve us, O Victorious One, from dishonor. Here let the place of darkness come upon you: may wealth be ours, desirable, in thousands.
Shine this felicity on us, O Agni: may we attain perfect understanding. All happiness be theirs who sing and praise you. May the gods preserve us evermore with blessings.
