1

With your help, mighty Indra, may it be the least, the middle, or the highest— Great with those aids and by these powers, support us, Strong God! in battles that subdue our enemies.

2

With these, discomfit the hosts that fight against us, and quench the fury of our opponents, yourself unharmed. With these, chase all our foes to every corner: subdue the tribes of Dāsas to the Aryas.

3

Those who array themselves as foes to strike us, O Indra, whether kin or strangers— Strike their manly strength so it is weak, and drive our foes in headlong flight backward.

4

With bodily strength, the hero slays the hero, when their bright arms face each other in combat. When two opposing forces contend in battle for seed and offspring, waters, cattle, or fields.

5

No strong man has conquered you, no hero, no brave, no warrior trusting in his valor. None of these is match for you, O Indra. You surpass all living beings far.

6

You are the Lord of both armies' valor when commanders call them to the conflict: When their ranks expand, fighting with a great foe or for homes with heroes.

7

And when the people rise for battle, be our savior, Indra, and protector, And theirs, your bravest friends, the pious, the chiefs who have made us priests, O Indra.

8

For eternal high dominion, Indra, given by gods for victory in battle, All lordly power and might, Holy Indra, to you for slaughter of Vṛtras.

9

So urge our troops together in the combats: give up the godless bands that fight against us. Sing at dawn, may we find you favor, Indra, and even now, Bharadvājas.
