1

He has arrived, the one we sought with longing, who knows the rites of sacrifice well. Let him perform his duties, let him sit as friend who was before us.

2

Best Priest, he has been won by sitting, for he has seen the well-ordered offerings. Come, let us worship the Gods we must, and pour oil, praise those worthy of praise.

3

Now he has made the Gods' feast effective; now we have found the secret tongue of worship. Now he has come, sweet, clothed in vital vigor, and made our call to the Gods effective.

4

This prelude of my speech I now will utter, so that we can quell our Asura enemies. Eaters of strengthening food who deserve worship, O you Five Tribes, accept my offering.

5

May the Five Tribes accept my offering, and the Cow's Sons and all who deserve worship. May the Earth protect us from earthly troubles, and the Air's mid realm from woes that come from heaven.

6

Spin the thread, follow the splendid light's region: guard the paths prepared by wisdom. Weave the knotless labor of the bards who sing: be Manu, and bring the Heavenly People forth.

7

Lovers of Soma, tie the chariot's traces tight: arrange the reins and adorn them. Bring the car with seats for eight to sit on, where the Gods have brought the treasure we love.

8

Here flows Asmanvati: hold fast each other, keep yourselves up, and pass, my friends, the river. Leave behind the Powers that brought no profit, and cross the flood to auspicious Powers.

9

Tvaṣṭar, most skilled craftsman, knew each magic art, bringing most blessed bowls that hold the drink of Gods. His axe, forged of good metal, he is now sharpening, with which Radiant Brahmaṇaspati will cut.

10

Now, O wise ones, make your axes sharp to fashion bowls to hold the Amṛta. Know the secret places and prepare it so the Gods have gotten immortality.

11

You with a secret tongue and dark intention placed the maiden deep within, the calf within the mouth. They are always near us with their gracious help: successful is the song striving for victory.
