1

SAVITAR, golden-haired, has raised the east with its radiant beams; he shines eternally in his power. He who guides Pūṣan, the wise one, oversees all existence like a herdsman.

2

He sits amidst the heavens that fill the two halves of the world, surveying the vast expanse of the sky and air.

3

He, the source of wealth, gathers treasures with his might, looking at every form and figure. Savitar, like a god whose law is constant, stands in the battle for the spoils like Indra.

4

Waters from the sacrifice came to Visvavasu, O Soma, when they saw him. Indra, seeing them off, looked around at the Sun's enclosures.

5

Visvavasu shall sing this song for us, the meter of the celestial Gandharva in the middle realm of the air. May we know truth and falsehood well, and may he inspire our thoughts and aid our praises.

6

In the path of the floods, he found the plunderer; he opened the rocky cow-pen's doors with Amṛta. These, the Gandharva told him, were rowed by dragons. Indra knew well the prowess of the dragons.
