FIRST, the boundless Ocean, Mātariśvan, fierce Fire, the Mighty One, the Giver of Bliss. And heavenly Waters, born by sacred Law, protested against the outrage on a Brahmin.
First, King Soma, without reluctance, restored the Brahmin’s bride. Mitra and Varuṇa invited them; Agni as Hotar; he took her hand and led her.
The man, her pledge, must be taken by her hand when they cry out, "She is a Brahmin’s bride." She did not stay for a herald to guide her; thus is the rule of a king protected.
Thus spoke the old Gods, seven Rishis who seated themselves in their austere devotion: Dire is a Brahmin’s wife led home by others; in the highest heaven she causes chaos.
The celibate Brahmin goes engaged in duty; he is a member of the Gods’ body. Through him Bṛhaspati gained his bride, as the Gods received the ladle brought by Soma.
So then the Gods restored her, so men returned the woman to the Brahmin. The Kings who kept their promises restored the Brahmin’s wedded wife,
Having restored the Brahmin’s wife and freed them with divine help from sin, They shared the fullness of the earth and won themselves extended dominion.
