How can we offer sacrifice to Agni? What hymn, dear to the gods, is chanted to him, brilliant?

Who, immortal and true to law, among humans a messenger, brings the gods as best of sacrificers?

Bring him reverently here, most propitious in sacrifices, true to law, the messenger;

For Agni, seeking the gods for mortals, knows them well and worships them in spirit.

He is mental power, a man, and perfect; he is the bringer, friend-like, of the marvelous.

The pious Aryan tribes at sacrifices first address him who performs wonders.

May Agni, destroyer of foes, mightiest hero, accept with love our hymns and devotion.

So may the generous lords whose strength is greatest, spurred by their wealth, inspire our thoughts with vigor.

Thus Agni Jātavedas, true to order, has been praised by the Gotama priests.

May he increase their splendor and vigor: observant, as he counts, he gathers growth.
