I GLORY IN THAT INDRA WHO FINDS THE LIGHT OF HEAVEN, WHO HAS A HUNDRED NATURED FRIENDS GOING WITH HIM. With hymns may I turn to Indra for my aid—his chariot, like a strong horse, rushes to the call.

Like a mountain firmly placed, unshaken, he, thousandfold protector, grew mighty in strength, When Indra, rejoicing in the draughts of Soma, forced the clouds, slaying Vṛtra, who held back the rains.

He holds even the rain-stayers, spread over dark clouds rooted in light, strengthened by the wise. Indra with thought, with skillful activity, I call, generous giver, for he fills with the juice.

Those that flow in heaven on sacred grass, his own assistants, nobly-natured, fill like the sea— Beside that Indra when he struck down Vṛtra, his helpers sped like swift streams down a slope, When Indra, thunder-armed, made bold by Soma draughts, as Tṛta cleaves Vala's fences, cleft him through.

Encompassed by splendor, your warrior might shone forth; the rain-obstructer lay in mid-air's lowest deep, What time, O Indra, you cast your thunder down upon the jaws of Vṛtra, hard to restrain.

The hymns that magnify you, Indra, reach to you even as water-brooks flow down and fill the lake. Tvaṣṭar gave yet more force to your appropriate strength, and forged your thunderbolt of overpowering might.

When, Indra, you struck down Vṛtra with your Bay Steeds, causing floods to flow for man, You held in your arms the metal thunderbolt, and set the Sun in the heaven for all to see.

In fear they raised the lofty hymn of praise, giving and effectual, leading up to heaven, When Indra's helpers fighting for the good of men, the Maruts, faithful to mankind, joyed in the light.
