1

You are the king of all gods, O Indra: protect the people, O Asura, save us. You, Lord of Heroes, Maghavan, our savior, are faithful, very rich, the giver of victory.

2

Indra, you humbled tribes that spoke with insults by breaking down seven autumn forts, their refuge. You stirred up billowy floods, and gave your enemy a prey to young Purukutsa.

3

With those you drive troops whose lords are heroes, and bring daylight now, much worshiped Indra, With them guard lion-like wasting active Agni to dwell in our tilled fields and in our homes.

4

Through the greatness of your spear, O Indra, they, to your praise, will rest in this earthly place. To loosen the floods, to seek, for cows, the battle, he boldly seized the booty.

5

Indra, carry Kutsa, him in whom you rejoice: the dark-red horses of the Wind are docile. Let the Sun roll his chariot wheel near us, and let the Thunderer meet the foes.

6

You, Indra, Lord of Bays, made strong by impulse, killed the tormentors of your friends, who do not give. Those who saw the Friend beside the living were cast aside by you as you rode on.

7

Indra, the bard sang forth in inspiration: you made the earth a covering for the Dāsa. Maghavan made the three that gleam with moisture, and to his home brought Kuyavāc to slay him.

8

These old deeds new bards have sung, O Indra. You conquered, bound many tribes forever. Like castles you crushed the godless races, and bowed the godless scorner’s deadly weapon.

9

You made the stormy waters flow down, O Indra, like running rivers. When over the flood you brought them, O Hero, you kept Turvaśa and Yadu safely.

10

Indra, may you be ours in all times, protector of the people, most gentle-hearted, Giving us victory over all our rivals. May we find strengthening food in full abundance.
