I offer this new, mightier hymn to Agni, my words and song to the Mightiest One, Who, offspring of the Waters, sits on Earth, Invoking Priest, in perfect time.
As soon as he was born, Agni was shown to Mātariśvan in the highest sky. When he was lit, his fiery brilliance filled the heavens and Earth, shining brightly.
His flames, never old, fair to behold, with faces lovely, shine with beauty. The rays of Agni, whose light is his strength, glow through the night, unending, timeless, like rivers.
May you lead Agni back to his home, the Sovereign Lord of wealth, like Varuṇa, He, All-Possessor, whom the Bhṛgus brought to Earth’s center, the heart of the world. One who no force can stop, like the Maruts roaring, like a dart shot, like lightning from Heaven, Agni, with sharp teeth, devours trees and conquers foes, as warriors strike down their enemies.
Will Agni find joy in our praise? Will Vasu grant our wishes with wealth? Will the Inspirer speed our prayers to reach their goal? I sing this hymn to Agni, Radiant-Glance.
The Flame-kindler wins Agni as a friend, Promoter of the Law, whose face is bright with oil. Inflamed and bright, refulgent in our gatherings, he lifts our hymn high, clothed in radiant hues.
Keep us constantly protected, Agni, with guards that never cease, Very Mighty, never sleepy, never misled. O Helper, keep our children safe.
Keep us ever watchful, Agni, with guards auspicious, very mighty, never resting, never doubting. O Helper, keep our children safe.
