1

May he who dwells with strength, the Mighty, the Supreme Ruler of earth and sky, Lord of true might, invoked in battles—may Indra, surrounded by Maruts, be our aid.

2

Whose path is unattainable like Surya’s: in every fight he is the mighty slayer of Vṛtra, Most powerful with his friends in his own course. May Indra, surrounded by Maruts, be our aid.

3

Whose paths go forth with great might, resolute, milking heaven’s sweet moisture, With manly strength, subduer of foes—may Indra, surrounded by Maruts, be our aid.

4

Among Aṅgirases he was the chief, a friend with friends, mighty among the mighty. Praised by the praise-givers, most honored of singers. May Indra, surrounded by Maruts, be our aid.

5

Strong with the Rudras as with his own children, conquering his enemies in battle, With his close companions, doing glorious deeds—may Indra, surrounded by Maruts, be our aid.

6

Humble of pride, exciter of conflict, Lord of heroes, invoked by many, May he today gain the sunlight with our men. May Indra, surrounded by Maruts, be our aid.

7

His help has made him cheerful in battle, the folk have made him guardian of their comfort. Single Lord of every holy service. May Indra, surrounded by Maruts, be our aid.

8

To him the hero, on high days of prowess, heroes for help and plunder shall turn to. He finds light even in the blinding darkness. May Indra, surrounded by Maruts, be our aid.

9

With his left hand he checks even the mighty, and with his right hand gathers up the plunder. Even with the humble, he acquires wealth. May Indra, surrounded by Maruts, be our aid.

10

With armies on foot and chariots he wins treasures: widely known by all the people. With manly might, he conquers those who hate him. May Indra, surrounded by Maruts, be our aid.

11

When in his ways with kin or strangers he hastens to the fight, invoked by many, For gain of waters, sons, and grandsons, may Indra, surrounded by Maruts, be our aid.

Awful and fierce, fiend-s
